Talkin’ Hybrid AU

I’ve had this scenario in my head where you’ve adopted Genji and Hanzo and they’ve started to reconcile.

Genji starts getting more affectionate with his brother– like when they were kittens– so Genji would nuzzle his head against Hanzo and he’d purr and let out little mews. Hanzo pts up a bit of a fight and reminds him they are not children any more.

However, one time you happened to walk into the room and caught Hanzo grooming the top of Genji’s head, giving his hair and ears tender licks while the two of them purred in sync. You dared not disturb them since you were sure Hanzo would lash out.

That reminds me. ^^ I wasn’t able to work it into my fic, but since Akitas sometimes groom other dogs they live with, I imagined Hanzo brushing out Shiba Genji’s tail on the regular, whether Genji liked it or not. Hanzo doesn’t like tangles in their fur.

Did you ever tell us how hybrid!Genji became a cyborg? If so I can’t seem to find it-

imagine-this-overwatch:

I did not! But now I shall.

Of course, everyone is welcome to imagine their own answer to this.

But, in my personal take on the AU, the omnic war was never a thing and Overwatch was never a thing and whatever.

SO HYBRID!GENJI.

He and Hanzo lived on the streets starting at a young age. Their parents belonged to a wealthy family but the family did not want kittens. Rather than put them up for adoption, they just left the little baby hybrids on the side of the road. Not a rare occurrence in this AU.

They grow up pretty hardened and turn to theft to survive, btu Genji always dreams of being adopted. Hanzo, on the other hand, has lost faith in humans and wants nothing to do with that. Sometimes people would approach them offering adoption, but Genji didn’t want to be separated from Hanzo and Hanzo didn’t want to be adopted. This caused a lot of tension between them and eventually they got into a pretty fierce verbal argument.

Some pretty bad things were said and Genji ended up running away. Hanzo just figured this was a tantrum and he’d be back soon. Moments later, there’s a loud tire screech and a crash and whoops Genji got totally slammed by a car in the dead of night. Like… real bad. Maybe pinned against a wall or something??? idk I didn’t think too hard on that, but bad enough to require cybernetics ya know???

Hanzo catches wind of this and follows closely as Genji is whisked away for emergency care. And, lucky enough, the doctors were working on cybernetic technology for hybrids and figured Genji would make a good test subject. Since he’s a stray, they didn’t need to work through the middle man of an owner and if anything went south… well, no one would miss him. Genji just wanted to live to hell yeah sign him the fuck up.

Hanzo blamed himself for this accident since he drove Genji away, so Hanzo just kind of peaced out and left Genji to fend for himself for awhile.

They run back into each other on the streets a few months later while Genji is out on a test walk in his new gear. It… wasn’t pleasant.

overdrivels:

Hanzo heard the ominous cry of “speed boost!” and the surprised laughter of D.Va. It’s common enough that it’s not something he pays too much attention as he keeps walking down the hall.

However, he soon comes to regret that decision when a blur of color passes him by. (To his credit, he does turn with the intention to strike, but seeing Hana’s grinning face duck under his arm makes him halt.)

Two, three soft thuds, and then pink and green are tearing down the hall, faster than he can catch.

His chest tingles.

He runs tentative fingers over the places where Hana presses something again him and looks.

To his horror and annoyance, it’s not ink–it’s actual lipstick, the oily stain coloring his fingers and glove. Three kiss marks blotch his chest, and a sudden sense of very aged anger flares through him. The days of Genji stumbling through the door, green hair and red lipstick all over his face and chest and once-clean shirt flashes through his mind. He knows from Genji’s proud exclamations from their teenage years that these markings will be difficult to remove.

“Oh!”

He sees a giggling Mei and Tracer coming out of a room whose eyes are trained directly on the markings on his chest.

Hanzo puts on the other half of his gi for once, and rushes back to his room with an, “Excuse me.”
