a/n: here you go, sweetie! i’m super sorry about the wait, but hopefully what i managed to scribble is okay! i swear i try way too hard when it comes to genji content lol.
The stones hurt just as bad as their words, it’s not their fault. It’s not their fault at all is the mantra Genji would tell himself while he pathetically dragged himself back to the meeting point, ignoring how each step set each of his sensitive nerves on fire.
It’s not their fault. Omnics are looking more and more human, it’s getting harder to tell them apart from cyborgs, but he has to remember that he wears a mask, so it’s not their fault. This mantra doesn’t lessen his pain, the hurt he feels from seeing the fear in humans eyes as they reach for the closest weapon to chase him away. It’s not their fault. The Omnic Crisis hurt everyone, left scars that may never heal.
It’s not their fault. No matter how many times he tells himself this, he still hurts. It still hurts. To know that while he is at peace, both man and machine their words, their actions still hurt him. So he tries to silence his own feelings, ignore the burning in his eyes and the fire blooming pain from his nerve endings as he drags himself to slowly slide down a wall.
It’s not their fault he wails. It’s not their fault he says while he’s broken and hurting. It’s not their fault he repeats to himself while you hold him close, soothing him and holding him close. Letting him cry as loudly as a child does, letting him cling to you.
He doesn’t notice when you remove his mask until his watery vision is filled with your smile. How your fingertips ghost across both human and synthetic flesh as you lean in close to give him a kiss. Genji wishes that you could run your fingers through his hair, nails dragging against his scalp to further comfort him, but for now, for now, this is enough.
